Russian aviation industry experiences sanctions effects - aviation expert
Aviation expert Anatoliy Khrapchynsky says that it has been a year and a half since the imposition of sanctions against Russia, and it has begun to feel some consequences, particularly in aviation
He said this on Espreso TV.
"The problem in Russia's aviation industry has been getting more active for a year and a half. For example, we see that since September Russia has been disconnected from the SITA system (an international communication channel for data exchange between various aviation market participants - ed.), which functions to create a certain hub for baggage, passengers, and other things. Also, some airlines refuse to operate flights because the aircraft in Russian service have not been repaired for a long time," the aviation expert said.
Anatoliy Khrapchynsky added that Airbus and Boeing refused to allow Russia to use the aircraft and help with repairs at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
"In addition, the Russians have several other problems, and one of them is the double registration of their aircraft. Until February 24, 2022, most Russian airlines registered abroad in offshore zones because it was cheaper for them. Over time, they began to re-register for fear of sanctions and received dual registration, which is prohibited by aviation law. This means that an airplane with dual registration can easily be arrested at any airport. So, in fact, we are only now seeing the effect of the sanctions that began to be imposed on Russia a year and a half ago," he summarized.
