Russian actions against Ukraine can be qualified as genocide - Canadian Ambassador Galadza
Even Russia's words can be qualified as genocide, Putin has clearly stated that Ukraine and Ukrainians have no right to exist
This was stated by the Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine Larisa Galadza in an interview with the Kyiv not Kiev project.
"I believe that even Russia's words can be qualified as genocide. There is no need to look for them. Putin has clearly stated that Ukraine and Ukrainians have no right to exist. That is, if you ask my personal opinion - yes, definitely," she said.
According to Galadza, it is necessary that Russia be punished for its war crimes within the legal system - we are talking about prison terms and reparations.
"They (Russia - ed.) violated international law. They violated the UN Charter and violated human rights. Therefore, we need the world and Ukrainian justice systems, the international criminal justice system to bring Russia to justice, the Russians to justice: the people who made decisions about this, the people who gave orders. Those who committed atrocities - to go through them all from top to bottom, and then again," she stressed.
In addition, she added that she sees no signs that Russia is looking for ways for peace talks.
"Putin recently said that he is not going to give up attacks even during the Christmas holidays. He is trying to convince his friends in the world that Ukraine does not want peace. It is hard to believe, but there are still such people in the world, such countries that think that it is Ukraine that is prolonging this war. Yes, you are absolutely right, this is piece of Russian disinformation, and I think that Ukraine and its partners are collectively doing everything possible to fight this narrative," Galadza said.
- On December 15, the European Parliament recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
- Prior to this, Ukraine called on the world to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 organized by Stalin's totalitarian communist regime as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. As of December 15, 22 states have done so.
