Russia will help China build up its nuclear capabilities – diplomat Ohryzko
Volodymyr Ohryzko, Ukrainian diplomat, Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2007 to 2009, head of the Center for Russian Studies, says that China seeks to reach the level of nuclear potential of the US and Russia as soon as possible
He shared his opinions on Espreso TV’s Verdict with Serhiy Rudenko programme.
"I think that Xi Jinping promised to help Putin balance so that Russia does not drown, so that Russia stays afloat. And Xi Jinping will throw a lifeline in economic terms. Now the Russian energy industry has reoriented itself to China. If the Chinese market for oil and gas disappears, then Russia stops. This is a pass that Xi Jinping is giving to Putin, and he cannot help but take it. Instead, Xi Jinping bargained for his own interest. And this interest is that Russia, as a nuclear power, will help China build up its nuclear capabilities. China seeks to reach the level of nuclear potential of the US and Russia as soon as possible," explained Ohryzko.
The diplomat also added that the Chinese "peace plan" is absolutely unacceptable to Ukrainians.
"As for the 'peace plan', China understands that no one will agree to it. This plan is absolutely unacceptable to us. Because no one in Ukraine will allow anyone to stop where the front line is now. This plan is confetti of a diplomatic and political nature, which is being thrown around to fool people. The Chinese "peace plan" will not work," Ohryzko emphasized.
