West's decision to ban Ukraine from striking at Russian territory is wrong - future commander of Estonian army
On February 23, Andrus Merilo, future commander of the Estonian army, said that the decision of Western countries to ban the use of weapons transferred to Ukraine for attacks on Russia's territory was a mistake
This was reported by ERR.
"In military terms, it was a clear stupidity. The introduction of such a restriction was very expensive and is also one of the reasons why Ukraine has returned to a defensive position and is trying to repel the Russian counteroffensive," Merilo said.
He emphasised that it was absolutely wrong from a military point of view to introduce such a restriction and should not have been imposed.
"If the fear was only that there would be no escalation, then, as we can see, this was not justified either. That is why I believe that this political restriction was absolutely wrong," said the colonel.
For reference: Andrus Merilo will become the commander of the Estonian Defence Forces on July 1. On Friday, February 23, he was promoted to brigadier general.
- On February 17, US Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said that the US would transfer $500,000 of confiscated Russian assets to Ukraine via Estonia.
