Negotiations will only lead to truce, not peace - analyst Harmash
Analyst Serhiy Harmash says that negotiations with Russia will not bring peace to Ukraine, but rather give a pause, after which a more prepared war will begin again
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"I disagree with the notion that negotiations with Russia are impossible, because they can happen. I think negotiations will take place. However, they may not be effective in bringing peace to Ukraine. But in terms of a pause or a truce, negotiations are likely. Many players, especially in the West, want this. Moreover, I am currently researching Russian media daily and observing that this topic is very active, which is not accidental," the analyst noted.
He added that Russia is discussing not negotiations with Ukraine directly, but negotiations concerning the Ukrainian crisis and with the West.
"But unfortunately, I have recently observed signals from our government preparing the public for the possibility of such negotiations. One should not have illusions that these negotiations are about peace, as they are about a truce. Even Trump’s so-called plan, as outlined by his advisors, does not include peace, does not compel Ukraine, and does not recognize the occupied territories as Russian. This means the war stops where it is at the moment negotiations begin, as neither side has achieved its goals. Therefore, after some time, when the sides are ready, a more prepared war will resume," Serhiy Harmash concluded.
- On July 20, former US President Donald Trump said after a conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he wanted to “bring peace to the world” and bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table.
