Mykhailo Prytula, expert on military counterintelligence, explains how the Russian army's offensive will end for Russia and what window of opportunity will open for Ukraine

He said this on Espreso TV.

"The Russians will try to attack after May 9, when they will dance on the bones of those who died during World War II. They will raise 'patriotism' and start mobilizing. The Russians will go with ‘meat’, with large numbers of people, using the tactics of the Red Army infantry. But all of their offensives will be quite devastating for Russia, in terms of a large loss of personnel and the loss of some of Putin's popularity. After the Russian offensive, which will be around the end of May or June 2024, there will be a window of opportunity for Ukraine to liberate its territories, because the Russian army will be defeated," Prytula said.

According to him, the Russians will try to attack because they have no other choice.

"The Russian authorities need to constantly provide some kind of ‘food’ for the weak minds of Russians so that they think about victory. Then the top in the Kremlin will be in power. And for this to happen, they need to constantly capture something, report on some victories. This is their imperial greatness. To maintain their ‘image’ they must constantly make some kind of offensive actions. The Russians have no other motivation to fight," he added.

  • On March 28, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia could launch a new offensive in Ukraine in late May or June of this year.
  • On March 30, retired National Guard major Oleksii Hetman, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, suggested that the Russian offensive could begin in April, with Russians needing a week at most to move troops.
  • Oleksandr Kovalenko, a military and political observer of the Information Resistance group, believes that the Russian forces are preparing for a large-scale offensive in the second half of 2024.
