Russian drones hunting civilians in Kherson, journalist reports
Yevhenia Virlych, editor-in-chief of Kherson's Kavun.City, reports that Russian drones have been swarming the skies of Kherson in recent days, targeting people on the streets
Speaking on Espreso TV, Virlych shared her observations.
"In recent weeks, drones have been buzzing all over Kherson at an alarming rate. Our followers have been asking us to spread the word on how to stay safe in the city. Russian recon drones, often armed with explosives, fly into the city center and beyond, and it feels like they’re literally hunting civilians. It’s extremely dangerous — there are just so many that the constant buzzing is becoming a part of daily life," she explained.
Virlych also shared safety tips for residents when encountering a Russian UAV.
"The key thing is to take cover immediately. If you hear or see a drone, find shelter quickly — any nearby place that could offer protection. Never try to be heroic and challenge the drone or throw anything at it. The stories of heroism mostly end in tragedy. People in Kherson are avoiding headphones or loud devices so they can listen for the drones, which can fly both high and low. The idea that ‘a drone won’t reach me’ doesn’t exist here anymore — especially on the right bank of the Dnipro River. You have to stay alert," she said.
Virlych emphasized that standing still for even five minutes in the city is now considered dangerous.
"These drones have a long range. Standing in one spot for more than five minutes, especially in open areas, increases the risk. Avoid open spaces, stick close to buildings, and map out your route clearly. Let trusted people know your location so they know where to look for you. But, whatever you do, don’t try to act heroic. If you hear a drone, take cover," she added.
