Russian aircraft drop bombs on own territory for fourth time in month: British intelligence explains why
In the territory under Russian control, there has been another unplanned release of aircraft ammunition for the fourth time this month, potentially pointing to issues with training and crew fatigue
This finding comes from a report by the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain.
According to a report from the Russian Telegram channel "Astra," on January 27, Russian aircraft accidentally dropped two FAB-250 unguided munitions in the Belgorod region, affecting two Russian villages. The incident led to the evacuation of up to 150 civilians within a 500-meter radius.
British intelligence highlights that this marks the fourth emergency air drop of Russian munitions on their territory in January 2024, and the fifth incident within a year, with the first occurring in Belgorod on April 20, 2023.
The British agency acknowledges the difficulty in confirming whether these incidents result from subpar aircraft armament or inadequate crew performance. Experts suggest a combination of both factors.
The increasing frequency of such events probably indicates a certain fatigue of the air and ground crews on the front line of Russia, as well as inadequate training of the crew, as emphasized by British intelligence.
Background on Russian aerial bomb incidents in Russia-controlled territory
On January 8, Russian aviation targeted the remaining high-rise buildings in the temporarily occupied Rubizhne, Luhansk region. The event could not be concealed due to witnesses and a significant number of victims.
A similar incident occurred in the Voronezh region of the Russian Federation, where Russian aviation munition fell, causing destruction during an attack on Ukraine.
On January 29, Russian planes dropped two FAB-250 aerial bombs in two settlements of the Belgorod region, intended for Ukraine. This resulted in the evacuation of approximately 150 residents.
