Russia has wide range of weapons in its arsenal that it can use — General Romanenko

Ihor Romanenko, founder of the Safe Skies over Ukraine Charity Foundation, General, Deputy Chief of the Ukrainian General Staff (2006-2010), believes that Russia has intact stocks of weapons, given that Russia is positioning the war not so much with Ukraine as with NATO

He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.

"The enemy is working to increase its effectiveness, i.e., it uses different types of weapons. Perhaps the enemy does not have the strength to develop something new. However, among the latest developments in Russia are the Zircon naval missiles, but after modernization, they can be used not only on ships but also in a complex, that is, they are universal. For example, it's like the Iskander on tactical missile launchers, and modernized Iskanders are launched from MiG-31K aircraft so that the speed of the Iskander, which in this case is called the Kinzhal, is hypersonic. That is, from an aircraft, this missile overcomes the speed criterion of Mach 5 and becomes a difficult target for missile defense," the general commented.

According to him, Ukraine needs to work with its allies to produce air defense systems with the ability to destroy, among other things, the Zircon, which has a very high speed.

"From the last two air strikes on December 29 and January 2, we can see that Russia, unfortunately, still has a fairly wide range of weapons in its arsenal that it can use. And given the number of these weapons, there may be several more such strikes. As these missiles are depleted, the likelihood of such strikes decreases. That is, they can launch 3-4 more missiles, although they have intact stockpiles, given that Russia is positioning the war not so much with Ukraine as with NATO. Decisions on a comprehensive approach to the formation of such strikes, what and how many, are based on Putin's ambitions at the moment, after which these strikes are formed by special structures," explained Ihor Romanenko.

  • On the night of December 29, Russia launched several groups of Shaheds that attacked Ukraine, and in the morning the terrorists launched missiles. They hit high-rise buildings, educational institutions, a shopping center and a maternity hospital.
  • On January 2, a powerful Russian missile attack took place. Russian troops attacked Ukraine from strategic aviation. A series of explosions occurred in Kyiv and Kharkiv. The attack resulted in dead and wounded people and destroyed buildings.
