Russia fires missiles at Kharkiv downtown: death toll has risen to two
The death toll from the January 2 rocket attack on Kharkiv by the Russian military has risen to two, the regional prosecutor's office said on January 4.
"Unfortunately, one of the wounded, an 84-year-old woman, died in hospital. As of now, two women have been killed and 62 other civilians have been injured as a result of the massive Russian missile attack," the statement reads.
Earlier, the prosecutor's office noted that the number of victims had increased - a 23-year-old girl sought medical assistance.

A 91-year-old woman was killed in the attack, and as of 1:50 pm on January 2, 50 people were reported injured (including 6 children), and one person died. All fires have been extinguished. The affected children are aged 6 to 13 years old. According to Oleh Syniehubov, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, the children suffered from explosive injuries, bruises, and acute stress reactions.
38 people were in medical facilities in Kharkiv, including 4 children in stable condition. Three people are in serious condition, while an elderly woman is in an extremely critical state, being in a coma.

The Kharkiv City Council reported that at least 41 residential buildings had been damaged by missile attacks on 2 January.
About 1,200 windows were shattered in apartments and common areas, and two roofs were damaged. Some buildings have problems with heat, gas and power supply.
"The main gas pipeline was damaged and an explosion occurred. The gas leak has been contained. The heating main was also damaged. Now our utility workers are working to repair the damage as quickly as possible, as we expect the temperature to drop at night. In addition, there is a building with very serious damage. Construction workers are trying to save this building, as the retaining wall has come down," said Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
Between December 29 and January 2, 116 residential buildings in Kharkiv were damaged by missile attacks. Inspections of the buildings are ongoing, and the number of damages may increase.
According to the Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office, three missile hits were recorded in the Shevchenkivskyi district. The strikes damaged apartment buildings, outbuildings, shops, cafes, pharmacies, cars, etc.

In the aftermath of the massive missile attack, residential buildings were destroyed and infrastructure damaged in the capital. There are victims. Due to the attack on January 2, almost 260,000 consumers in Kyiv were cut off from power supply, and substation equipment was switched off in the region.
The consequences in Solomianskyi district were particularly dire. Residential high-rise buildings caught fire there. The fire trapped people on the floors. Rescuers were evacuating people. According to the Interior Ministry, rescuers freed 17 people, rescued 57 people and evacuated 134 people.
As of 1:50 pm, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported 2 dead and 48 injured.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, as of 12:45 pm, two people were reported dead, and the number of injured in the building in Solomianskyi district increased to 49. Forty-three people were hospitalized.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, among the hospitalized are a 2-year-old boy and his parents, who were injured when missile fragments hit an apartment in the Solomianskyi district.
Earlier, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that a woman wounded in the Solomianskyi district had died in an ambulance. Later, the Kyiv City Military Administration confirmed this information. The deceased was 86 years old.
The number of victims may change as rescue operations continue.
According to updated data, in Desnianskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, debris fell and caught fire in open areas. The fires were extinguished.
In the Pechersk district, the remnants of the missiles fell on the roof of a 9-story residential building, another multi-story building and a private house. Later, the Interior Ministry reported that minor fires had been extinguished in two unfinished buildings.
In the Obolon district, a residential building caught fire, with the remains falling onto the territory of non-residential buildings and warehouses. A fire broke out in a warehouse with an area of 2000 square meters. As of 12:00 pm, the fire was localized and the firefighting operations are ongoing.
In Svyatoshynskyi district, missile fragments fell on a non-residential building. A fire broke out near a social sector building. 120 people were evacuated, one victim was taken to the hospital. The fire was extinguished.
In Podilskyi district, fires broke out at various addresses in warehouses. One of the addresses was a fire in a car dealership. Twenty-nine cars were completely burnt down and five were damaged. In addition, a gas pipeline valve and a water pipe were damaged. The necessary services are working at the scene.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, the remains of the missile fell on an open area.
Kyiv region: two people killed, 11 wounded in missile attack
This was reported by the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Ruslan Kravchenko.
According to preliminary information, 2 people were killed and 11 others were wounded, including one child. They are being provided with the necessary medical care.
Due to missile fragments falling in the town of Vyshneve, 5 apartment buildings were damaged. People have been evacuated to the nearest warming centers and psychologists from the State Emergency Service will work with them. A mobile warming center is also being deployed in the town.
Private houses and more than 60 cars were damaged in some settlements of the Kyiv region. The falling debris also started a fire in an unfinished church, and damaged several businesses and warehouses. In addition, one of the regional medical institutions was damaged. Its patients are being transferred to another medical facility.
In Brovary, Bucha, Fastiv and Vyshhorod districts, there were problems with power supply in several settlements. The region is operating stabilization centers. Critical infrastructure facilities are gradually switching to generators as an alternative power supply.
International funds are already helping people. In particular, the GEM Foundation will replace windows in damaged houses.
