Russia plans assaults in Zaporizhzhia direction
Kostyantyn Denysov, spokesman for the Legion of Freedom in Zaporizhzhia region, has said that the Russian occupiers are likely to intensify assaults from Monday onward to reclaim the positions lost in the latter half of 2023
Denysov made these remarks on Espreso.
"We're in Zaporizhzhia region. Our forces are engaged. What's the latest? The enemy has somewhat slowed infantry attacks, but it's premature to draw conclusions. They've shifted focus to air and artillery strikes, maintaining a continuous but less intense barrage compared to previous days," the soldier explained.
According to him, Russian troops aim to solidify control over recaptured territories.
"In upcoming days, they're planning assault operations. Intel suggests they're coordinating and training assault units in training grounds within the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region. With sunny, dry weather forecasted from Monday, they'll likely ramp up offensive actions to reclaim positions lost in the latter half of 2023," he said.
When asked about the most active areas in the Zaporizhzhia direction, Denysov replied that activity is widespread due to increased artillery and aviation usage, as Russia has amassed forces and ammunition supplies. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have transitioned to active defense.
"They currently hold the initiative, initiating more offensive actions. They're essentially mirroring our actions during the offensive in the latter half of 2023. They're pushing, squeezing, and gradually encroaching toward the gray zone on our front, slowly advancing on trenches and strongholds. Though they rarely manage to hold ground after advances of a few hundred meters, they overwhelm with troops and artillery, while aviation continuously bombards our positions," he concluded.
For reference: The Legion of Freedom comprises members of the Svoboda military party engaged in the Russian-Ukrainian war. They serve in various capacities within the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard, special units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and volunteer battalions. Established in February 2015 during the XXX congress of Svoboda.
- Russian terrorists have been actively employing golf carts, buggies, and ATVs in attacks on the Zaporizhzhia region, according to Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of the Tavria operational-strategic group of troops.
- Denysov also noted that Ukrainian defenders are facing intense assaults, often accompanied by aerial and artillery support.
