Situation is tense in Zaporizhzhia sector - Freedom Legion spokesman Denysov

"The situation is tense and difficult in the Zaporizhzhia sector. The enemy is attacking under the cover of aviation and artillery, their assault infantry is pressing us, pushing us, trying to drive us out of our positions. There are constant artillery duels, and the Russians are bombarding us with artillery, their aircraft are constantly bombing the positions of the Defense Forces, trying to hunt for equipment. In general, the situation is extremely tense and complicated, the enemy has actually set a goal to recapture all the areas and positions they lost during the offensive of the Ukrainian forces in the second half of 2023," the fighter explained.

Speaking about the defensive structures and positions, Denysov explained that the construction of fortifications in the Zaporizhzhia region is underway.

"Of course, it is not at a perfect pace. We have to understand that there are certain objective circumstances that affect this, where our guys are standing, they are digging in and digging all these defensive fortifications, but again we have to understand that the Russians also control everything, their drones are hovering over our guys' heads like mosquitoes and, accordingly, drones are targeting the trenches, infantry, strongholds (positions - ed.), they cover with Grads (MLRS, - ed.), and repeatedly bring in Solntsepyoks (TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system - ed.). In addition, we must understand that Zaporizhzhia region is mostly steppe and often we have to dig defensive fortifications in the middle of a bare field," explained the military.

At the same time, the Freedom Legion spokesman added that Russia has no shortage of artillery and electronic warfare equipment, and has parity in terms of drones.

The Freedom Legion is a combatant association of all members of the All-Ukrainian Union Svoboda who, as part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard, special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and volunteer battalions, are participating in the Russian-Ukrainian war. It was created in February 2015 by the decision of the XXX Congress of the All-Ukrainian Union Svoboda.
