Russia attacks Ukraine with missiles in morning of July 8: severe deathtoll in several cities
On the morning of July 8, Russian troops launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine. Nearly 20 people were killed and about a hundred were wounded in the Kyiv region, Kryvyi Rih, Pokrovsk, Dnipro, and Kyiv
Ukraine’s Air Force reported the information.
At about 09:50 a.m., Russia launched ballistic missiles from the southern direction.
Ukraine’s air force warned of the threat.
Meanwhile, explosions were heard in Kryvyi Rih.
The Kyiv Regional Military Administration warned residents that air defense forces were operating in the region. The Air Force announced a threat to the Kyiv region.
At 10:30 a.m., Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported explosions in the city and urged residents not to leave their shelters until the air raid alert is cancelled.
At 10:42 a.m., the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that as a result of the missile strike on Kyiv, debris fell in the Solomyanskyi district of the capital. Emergency services are on their way to the scene. Information about the damage and casualties is being clarified.
At 10:46 a.m., repeated explosions have been heard in Kyiv.
At 10:48 a.m., debris was recorded falling in Solominsky, Dniprovskyi and Holosiivskyi districts of Kyiv. Preliminary, there is a fire.
At 10:55 a.m., Klitschko reports an explosion in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the capital.
At 11:03 a.m., the Kyiv City Military Administration has clarified the consequences of the Russian missile attack as of 11:04 a.m:
- an office building was damaged in Solomyanskyi district;
- in Holosiivskyi district, debris fell near a residential building;
- in Dniprovskyi district, debris is burning in a residential area.
- a private house was damaged in Darnytskyi district;
- a house in Desnianskyi district is on fire.
In addition, one victim was reported, his injuries are not critical to life.
At 11:05 a.m., the Kyiv City Hall said that it is currently aware of three victims: one of them was hospitalized, and two others were treated on the spot. Information about one person who died is also being checked.
At 11:10 a.m., Kyiv mayor reported that one of the premises of a children's medical institution was hit.
Suspilne reports that the strike hit the Okhmatdyt children's hospital.
At 11:21 a.m., Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak wrote: "They (Russian troops - ed.) targeted children today... Children's hospital, a targeted attack by Russians."
As of 11:24 a.m., there are 9 victims in different districts of the capital. Six of them were hospitalized.
As of 11:32 a.m., five people were killed and 11 injured in Kyiv. According to Mayor Klitschko, 8 of them are in hospitals.
The Kyiv City Military Administration later added that in Svyatoshynskyi district, debris is burning near a residential building; a fire broke out in the premises of an enterprise, and in Shevchenkivskyi district, the Okhmatdyt children's hospital was damaged and partially destroyed.
They reported that one person was killed and nine injured.
As of 11:46 a.m., 10 people have been killed and over 30 wounded in Kryvyi Rih, ten of them in serious condition, according to the head of the city's defense council, Vilkul.
Several hits were recorded in the city, including the administrative building of an industrial enterprise.
In the Kyiv region, there is information about two victims who suffered shrapnel wounds. The fall of Russian missile fragments was also recorded in three districts of the region, causing fires in grass and forest litter.
Af of 11:55 a.m., the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, said that a multi-storey building, a business, and a service station were damaged in Dnipro city. There are also wounded in the city.
Meanwhile, the death toll in Kyiv has risen to seven.
Kyiv mayor also reported that patients of children's hospital hit by a Russian missile are being evacuated to municipal hospitals.
During the morning missile attack on Ukraine on July 8, Russian troops also hit a business building in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, killing at least three people.
In total, about 20 people have been killed and about fifty wounded as a result of Russia's morning attack on Ukraine.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, there are currently 7 dead and 25 injured in Kyiv as a result of the Russian attack. The local services are doing everything they can to rescue people from the rubble and provide assistance.
President Zelenskyy showed the aftermath of the strike on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv.
He reminded that the Okhmatdyt hospital in Kyiv is one of the most important not only in Ukraine but also in Europe. It exclusively serves as a children's hospital where thousands of children have been saved and restored to health.
"Now the hospital has been damaged by a Russian strike, there are people under the rubble, and the exact number of wounded and dead is unknown. Now everyone is helping to clear the rubble: doctors and ordinary people. Russia cannot help but know where its missiles are flying, and it must be held fully accountable for all its crimes: against people, against children, against humanity in general. It is very important that the world does not remain silent about this now and that everyone sees what Russia is and what it is doing."

According to him, there is currently no accurate information about the number of victims, as well as data on whether children may be under the rubble.
The new building of the Okhmatdyt hospital was destroyed, completely torn apart by the explosion, with windows shattered throughout the building.
The mayor of Kyiv also reported a hit to a residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Apartment blocks were damaged, one of them was destroyed. Residents are being evacuated.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that a fire covering an area of 1,500 square meters in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi district was extinguished following the Russian strike. Tragically, 5 people lost their lives, and 4 others were injured. The injured have been hospitalized for further treatment.
According to the rescuers, the total number of people killed in Kyiv is 8, and 15 more were injured.

According to her, the consequences of the missile attack are significant; two houses were burning. The fires have been extinguished, but rescuers, police, and ambulances remain active at the scene. Several apartment blocks and houses have been damaged, with windows blown out. People are trying to retrieve their belongings and documents. An orphanage is located near these houses, and preliminary reports indicate all the children were safely in the shelter.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, as of 12:40 a.m., 9 people were killed and 33 wounded in the massive missile attack on Kyiv.
The Prosecutor's Office has launched a pre-trial investigation in a criminal proceeding over violations of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The destruction and damage to civilian infrastructure in 7 districts of the capital were recorded as follows:
- In the Shevchenkivskyi district, the children's hospital Okhmatdyt sustained damage with reports of destructions.
- In the Holosiivskyi district, a kindergarten and a residential building were damaged, with cars on fire.
- An office building was damaged in the Solomyanskyi district.
- In the Dniprovskyi district, debris is burning in residential buildings.
- A private house was damaged in the Darnytskyi district.
- In the Sviatoshynskyi district, debris is burning near a residential building, and a fire broke out in the premises of an enterprise.
- In the Desnianskyi district, a house is on fire.
Emergency services and investigative teams are working at the scene.
The head of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed in the Context of Armed Conflict of the Prosecutor General's Office and the leadership of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office are also on the scene.
The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Serhiy Popko, said that 5 children were taken out of the destroyed building of the Okhmatdyt hospital for re-hospitalization.
Espreso correspondent Dmytro Didora is at the Okhmatdyt children's hospital: "The new hospital building has been severely damaged, with its facade smashed and windows completely shattered. There is a significant amount of broken glass strewn around. The impact was not directly on the building itself but on a neighboring structure. Many people have gathered to assist in clearing the rubble, demonstrating a united effort to help. The exact number of injured and fatalities is not yet known. A nurse who was injured in the explosion shared that she did not initially notice the blast; everything happened suddenly, and debris flew toward her. She is currently in a state of shock but recovering.”
At 13:06 a.m., it was reported that another strong explosion occurred in Kyiv.
Serhiy Lysak, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, said that as of 1 p.m., one man was killed and six injured in Dnipro city. One person is in serious condition.
As a result of a massive Russian missile attack on July 8, three DTEK transformer substations in Kyiv's Holosiivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts were completely destroyed or damaged.
