Russians believe that the service of Ukrainians in the police of the occupiers is a crime. But the service of Russians and Cossacks in Vlasov’s army—well, that’s different. That’s just how it turned out

Russians believe that the world should still be grateful to them for the liberation of Auschwitz. Even though Auschwitz was liberated by the Soviet army, specifically by units primarily composed of Ukrainians.

Moving on. Russians believe that the service of Ukrainians in the police of the occupiers is a crime. But the service of Russians and Cossacks in Vlasov’s (Andrey Vlasov was a Soviet general who defected to Nazi Germany during World War II - Ed.) army—well, that’s different. That’s just how it turned out.

Similarly, the repressions against Jews in the USSR were not a continuation of the Nazi-orchestrated Holocaust, which ultimately destroyed local Yiddish culture. No, they were a “fight against poisoner doctors, rootless cosmopolitans, and formalists in the arts.” After all, the overseer of the Ukrainian SSR, First Secretary V.V. Shcherbytsky, was both a Ukrainophobe and an antisemite at the same time. One did not contradict the other. But had he been accused of Russophobia, he would have been swiftly punished.

"An open question: whom should the world thank for the liberation of the Gulag (Gulag or Main Directorate of Camps was a system of forced labor camps operated by the Soviet Union, particularly during Stalin’s rule - Ed.)? The Gulag is still functioning. Russian dissidents are imprisoned there, as well as Ukrainian prisoners of war. Who will be the liberator this time?"

President Putin does not want to negotiate with President Zelenskyy? Then the negotiations will be led either by a Russian president with a different surname or by the Tsar of Russia, who will finally restore the traditional order in his somewhat smaller kingdom. And by then, the President of Ukraine may also have a different surname…
