May 9 end-of-war scenario is deliberate Russian disinformation tactic - Ukrainian general
Ukrainian General Mykola Malomuzh says that reports circulating about the war potentially ending on May 9, 2025, are a deliberate test by Russia
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
“The materials that appeared in the public domain regarding the end of the war on May 9 are a deliberate bogus story intended to present such a scenario to Trump’s team, Europeans, and third countries. This is a probe initiated by Russia and its supporters in the West. Trump’s team includes individuals who support following this scenario. They consider it a viable option to cease hostilities without proper guarantees for Ukraine—such as NATO membership or limitations on military resources—which is an absurd model promoted by Russia,” emphasized the Ukrainian general.
According to him, this model of ending the war is being pushed through various channels, primarily within Trump’s administration.
“That is why we need to work with the team of the new U.S. president to provide a clear perspective and understanding. Based on my extensive experience working with both Americans and Europeans over the past decades, I can say that in such serious military situations, there is a tendency toward simplistic solutions. The Americans often talk about resolving the issue by delivering a strike or addressing the problem along the demarcation line—such an approach does not work,” Malomuzh noted.
