China welcomes Trump's intentions to end Ukraine war, believes it can be achieved through talks
China supports the intentions of U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to resolve the "Ukrainian crisis" as soon as possible, but believes that the only way to achieve this is through negotiations
Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated this during a briefing.
"We are pleased to see that all parties are playing a constructive role and creating conditions for de-escalation and political resolution of the Ukrainian crisis (the war of Russia against Ukraine - ed.)," she said.
At the same time, China continues to maintain the view that the only way to resolve the war is through dialogue and negotiations.
"China will continue to promote peace talks and is ready to maintain contact on this issue with other parties," assured the spokesperson, without mentioning the United States.
Mao also neither confirmed nor denied Trump's words during his video address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he said he had discussed with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on January 17 the issue of ending the war in Ukraine.
"Regarding the crisis in Ukraine, China will remain committed to promoting peace negotiations," said the diplomat.
