New commander for Ukraine’s eastern troops appointed to tackle crisis — former Aidar Battalion commander
Yevhen Dykyi, former platoon commander of the Aidar Battalion, has commented on the appointment of Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi as the commander of the Khortytsia operational-strategic troop grouping
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi has been tasked with ensuring that the front does not collapse. This appointment is already a crisis measure. It shows how serious the situation is,” Dykyi believes.
According to the former platoon commander of the Aidar Battalion, when the commander of all Ground Forces — 80% of Ukraine’s army — is appointed to lead a specific section of the front, it means that things in that area are really bad.
“This is delicately called crisis management, but in reality, it’s an emergency response and problem-solving. The task before General Drapatyi now is to prevent the collapse of the front because this specific sector faces a real threat. His job is to establish coordination between numerous different units, which currently leads to a certain level of chaos in command. Very often, there is no proper interaction between the units,” Dykyi explained.
The former Aidar platoon commander added that this is a crisis decision, and all that remains is to wish Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi success in handling the situation.
“Because, in fact, Pokrovsk is at stake. His task is to establish coordination and cement the front there so that it does not fall apart,” Dykyi emphasized.
