Political scientist says when we can expect initial results of negotiations with Russia
Political analyst Viktor Bobyrenko believes that the first results of negotiations with Russia can be expected after the inauguration of Donald Trump and once the new administration starts work
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"Now some Western politicians are already saying that we'll soon know the date for a ceasefire and the start of negotiations. But no one is asking Putin whether he would agree to that. From what I see, he will continue testing us until the end of winter. Putin believes he is stronger now, and that he can break through the front lines and target our rear, especially by attacking energy infrastructure. That’s why they’re not using cruise and ballistic missiles as much right now. They are clearly saving them to strike our energy sector as hard as possible,” Bobyrenko explained.
According to the political scientist, Putin may only agree to negotiations and consider Trump’s initiatives after the inauguration of the newly elected U.S. president.
“Yes, they want to reconcile. But does the Russian dictator Putin want this? He will only be open to negotiations when he realizes that war is no longer an option. This might happen by the end of winter. Right now, he doesn’t need talks. Trump hasn’t taken office yet, and his inauguration will take place on January 20. So, Putin may say that talks will happen after January 20. The Trump administration will then have two or three weeks to fill key positions. In reality, we may not see serious results from Trump’s negotiations until the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion — somewhere in mid-February, or closer to spring,” he added.
