Peace Summit as alternative to UN

"Failure of the Peace Summit in Switzerland", "Not a summit, but an international photo shoot", "The Global South didn't support the Peace Summit in Switzerland"... and so on

Critics of the summit and its results base their arguments on the absence of representatives of China and other countries of the so-called Global South. They say that this fact finally removes 'globalisation' from the agenda.

''However, it should be understood that 'globalisation' is not limited to China. We should also remember that China is a dictatorship with communist ideology. In addition, Beijing still believes that its "peace plan" is the best. In addition, China is convinced that a delegation from Russia should have been present at the summit table in Switzerland. So everything is clear with China.''

Now for the other countries of the Global South. The BRICS countries are not 'global' either. But at the same time, although Brazil, India and South Africa did not sign the final communiqué, representatives of these countries attended the summit and did not express any complaints about the summit agenda or the content of the communiqué. It can only be assumed that these countries used the "abstention" option rather than opposing it.

I wouldn't try to overemphasise the position of the countries of the Global South. For Kyiv, the most important thing is the support of the global West. These are all the most powerful countries in the Euro-Atlantic area, the EU, Japan, and South Korea, which are key players in the global geopolitical arena. It's great that Ukraine was supported by Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, and Costa Rica among Latin American countries. The countries of the Middle East should be singled out separately: Israel, which has long ignored Ukrainian initiatives (!!!), Jordan, and Qatar. Oceania and the ASEAN countries should not be ignored either: Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, the Philippines, Singapore (!!!). African countries also signed the document. The Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Somalia... - are the African countries that signed the communiqué.

All countries and organisations that attended the Peace Summit in Switzerland, even those that did not sign the communiqué, demonstrated their unanimity and commitment to fundamental social and human values: international law, humanitarian international law, the inviolability of Ukraine's borders, and recognised the war as Russia's war against Ukraine. All world leaders condemned the Kremlin's "peaceful" ultimatum yesterday.

That is, the summit was attended by countries from all continents of the world. Therefore, the summit in Switzerland was undoubtedly global and, for a start, quite successful and may become an alternative platform to the outdated and obsolete UN in the future.
