On Sunday, May 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that over 80 countries have confirmed their participation in the Peace Summit in Switzerland on June 15-16

He stated it in his latest address.

Zelenskyy said, "Together with Switzerland, we are preparing such a Summit. It starts on June 15. Over 80 countries confirmed they will come. And we continue to work with the leaders, inviting them to join the Summit. I thank everyone who really helps to bring the peace."

He also called on world leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, who have not yet joined the global efforts for the summit.

"We do not want the UN Charter to be burnt… burnt down just like these books. And I hope you don’t want either. Please, show your leadership in advancing the peace – the real peace and not just a pause between the strikes. The efforts of the global majority are the best guarantee that all commitments will be fulfilled. Please support the Peace Summit with your personal leadership and participation," Zelenskyy emphasized.

The president stated that Russia is led by those who normalize burning lives, destroying cities and villages, dividing nations, and erasing borders through war.

"There is no nation that can stop such war alone, unaided – world leaders’ engagement is needed," the Ukrainian president stressed.

He added that Ukraine has extensive experience with Russia's deception in negotiations, which often masked preparations for war.

"And that’s exactly why global efforts are needed – the Global Peace Summit of the leaders whom Russia won’t be able to deceive," the president concluded.

Peace Summit: Details and features of the event

On February 26, Switzerland announced plans to hold a peace summit for Ukraine by the summer. The Kremlin dismissed the idea of such an event without Russia as "not serious and even ridiculous."

On March 18, the Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland mentioned that China is considering participating in the Peace Summit organized by Switzerland at Ukraine's request.

On May 2, the Swiss Foreign Ministry stated that Russia should be part of the Peace Summit because "the peace process without Russia is unthinkable." However, Moscow was not invited this year.

On the same day, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy declared that the Summit would be the first real chance to restore peace.

At the Peace Summit, they plan to develop a joint negotiating position for Ukraine, which will be presented to Russia's top leadership, said Serhiy Nykyforov, spokesperson for the President of Ukraine.
