Russia deploys three cruise missile submarines to sea, military spokesman explains why
Serhiy Bratchuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army South, explained why Russia deployed three submarines with cruise missiles to sea simultaneously
He discussed this on Espreso TV.
“Russia is simulating exercises and other actions to demonstrate that the Russian Black Sea Fleet is operational. This is their main goal. The submarines they’ve deployed are missile carriers, which means the potential threat of missile strikes remains constant. However, when it comes to Kalibr missiles, they are usually intercepted, and sometimes the interception rate is nearly 100 percent. Russian forces are trying to show their presence and capability to threaten Ukraine, which is their primary objective. The so-called exercises are merely a cover for Russia's activities. Since the war is ongoing, any exercises are a potential threat and an extension of the hostilities,” Bratchuk explained.
He also noted that the port in the Russian city of Novorossiysk remains a significant target for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
“Submarine launchers make up the entire potential of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Russia has primarily focused on building surface missile launchers, which are now based in Novorossiysk. Unfortunately, Russia has managed to equip submarines there as well, and there may be similar efforts for surface ships. Given that Russia produces Kalibrs, the threat of missile strikes remains. Another question is how well these ships are protected, especially in the port of Novorossiysk. The question is not only about the missile carriers themselves but also about Ukrainian Defense Forces, who understand that the port of Novorossiysk is a target and a major oil terminal,” the spokesman concluded.
