Ukrainian author's book on first year of large-scale war to be published in English

On June 13, the prestigious Allen Lane publishing house, an imprint of one of the world's most famous publishing houses Penguin, will publish an English translation of the non-fiction book by Ukrainian writer Oleksandr Mykhed titled The Language of War.

It was translated from Ukrainian by Maryna Gibson, Hanna Leliv, and Abby Devar.

The book, which Mykhed began writing on the first day of the large-scale invasion, tells the story of the eighth year of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The author worked on it for thirteen months, describing his own experiences and telling about his parents, who were in Bucha for almost three weeks during the occupation. 

"The Language of War is about what happens when your world changes overnight. When you wake up to the sound of helicopters and the smell of gunpowder. When your home is hit by shells or broken into by gunmen, and you spend another night in a basement-turned-bomb shelter. When, even though you’ve never held a weapon before, you realise the only choice is to fight back. It is about things one can never forget, or forgive," the description on the British publisher's website reads.

The cover of the English-language edition was also revealed.
