British Intelligence suggests deportation of Ukrainians refusing Russian passports in occupied territories
The Kremlin is attempting to make the integration of temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories into Russia irreversible by resettling Russians and deporting Ukrainians
British intelligence gave this forecast.
They reminded that Russia only allows access to social services in the temporarily controlled territories (TCT) of Ukraine if individuals possess Russian passports. Intelligence cites data from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs claiming that 2.8 million residents of the occupied territories of Ukraine purportedly hold Russian passports.
In addition, in April 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree stating that Ukrainians in the occupied territories who have not obtained Russian passports will be considered foreigners or stateless persons. These individuals will only be allowed to reside in the occupied regions until July 1, 2024.
“There is a realistic possibility that any individuals in the TCT after this date who do not have a Russian passport will be deported to face detention,” British intelligence emphasizes.
As a reminder, on February 22, Medvedev suggested sending Ukrainians awaiting the arrival of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to labor camps in Siberia.
“The Kremlin is seeking to make the integration of the TCT into the Russian Federation irreversible,” Intelligence believes.
