Russia's ammo depot hit by Ukrainian drones still exploding after a day
More than 24-hours later, Russian authorities are only just beginning to report the conclusion of the "active detonation phase" at the ammunition depot in the Voronezh region, while sappers continue to examine the surrounding area
Defense Express reports on August 25.
After another successful operation by Ukraine's Defense Intelligence, a big field depot containing munitions for Russia's West military group, near the city of Ostrogozhsk, Voronezh region, was destroyed.
The strike occurred on August 24, causing ongoing detonations. According to Ukrainian intelligence, this depot held 5,000 tons of ammunition, including artillery shells, tank rounds, anti-aircraft missiles, and small arms cartridges.
The explosions continue, as confirmed by local authorities in Voronezh. On the morning of August 25, officials declared that only the "active detonation phase" had ended, and demining teams had begun working on the area around the depot, not the depot itself.
Only after the surrounding area, including evacuated settlements, has been cleared will other services begin their work. Moreover, the state of emergency in the area remains in effect, with over 600 people evacuated so far.
