Russia targets even voltage transformers that power village streets in Ukrainene
Russian troops have been attacking critical facilities of the Sumy region, including water towers, water mains, substations and voltage transformers
Dmytro Zhyvytskyi, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, shared the information with Espreso TV.
"After the massive shelling yesterday, the area was left without power, but it was quickly restored. Hourly blackout schedules have been in effect this morning, but since the power limitations have been exceeded, emergency blackouts are applied," he said.
Zhyvytskyi added that the energy system is unstable and the situation changes every minute.
"Because of the cold weather, people use electrical appliances more often and exceed the limits. We have to turn off a large number of consumers. Currently about 50% of consumers experience blackouts. They alternate among themselves," said the head.
He noted that Russia continues artillery shelling from its territory.
"Last week, a substation in the north of the region was shelled. The enemy is targeting critical facilities - water towers, water pipes, substations, even voltage transformers that power just several streets in a village," concluded Zhyvytskyi.
