Ukraine blocks Russian candidates from leading ITU research groups
The Ukrainian delegation successfully blocked Russian candidates from obtaining senior positions in research groups of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the 2025-2028 period
The Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation reported the information.
Thanks to the support of 40 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, France, and Poland, Russia's access to global telecommunications processes has now been significantly restricted.
“They will only be able to observe the results of research, without the ability to influence the definition of standards and the development of telecommunications technologies,” the statement said.
This decision is noted to strengthen the protection of international law and enhance global telecommunications security.
Background. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that sets standards in the field of communications, manages the allocation of radio frequencies and satellite orbits, and helps countries develop telecommunications infrastructure.
It consists of 193 countries, which means that the standards set by the ITU are fundamental to the global telecommunications industry.
- On October 16, during the 44th regular meeting of the Commission on the Protection of the Black Sea against Pollution, the Ukrainian delegation prevented the transfer of the chairmanship to Russia.
