Trump has no reason to concede or compromise with Russia — international expert
Oleksandr Kraiev, expert with the Foreign Policy Council Ukrainian Prism, believes Donald Trump currently has no reason to make concessions to Russia, as even sanctions against Russia are beneficial for the United States
He shared his thoughts on Espreso TV.
"Trump has no reason to compromise with Russia at the moment. The sanctions the U.S. imposed on Russia actually benefit him. He’s focused on boosting the American oil and gas industry. Politically, it makes sense for him to keep the pressure on Putin, especially after his talks with Xi Jinping. From a geopolitical standpoint, Trump feels confident and justified. He’s always said the U.S. should aim to be great and reclaim its position as a world leader. During his first term, he pushed the idea that America should prioritize itself instead of wasting resources on others. Now, we’re seeing a very different Trump," Kraiev explained.
The expert highlighted that Trump recognizes Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate and end the war, unlike Russia, which is intent on dragging it out.
"Trump’s priorities have shifted. What stands out is that he understands Ukraine’s position is rational. He sees Ukraine is ready to negotiate and has a strategy. Meanwhile, Russia just wants to prolong the war to wear Ukraine down," he added.
