121 combat clashes occur on Russian-Ukrainian front on Jan. 21 — General Staff

Since the beginning of the day on January 21, 121 combat clashes have taken place at the front. The Russian forces are attacking most actively in the Pokrovsk direction

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this as of 8:00 a.m. on January 22.

“The situation at the front remains difficult. The Russian aggressor is using its superiority in manpower and equipment to continuously attack Ukrainian positions. Ukrainian defenders are steadfastly holding back the onslaught of the occupiers, inflicting significant losses on the enemy,” the statement says.

In total, 121 firefights were registered over the past day. 

Over the past day, the aviation, missile forces and artillery of the Ukrainian Defense Forces hit sixteen areas of Russian troops, weapons and military equipment, two command posts, four warehouses, two artillery facilities and one other important object.

Shelling of Ukraine

Yesterday, the Russian military launched two missile attacks on Ukrainian positions and populated areas using four missiles, as well as 70 air strikes, dropping 90 guided bombs. In addition, they conducted over 6,000 attacks, including 151 from multiple launch rocket systems, and used 2,899 'kamikaze' drones to attack.

15 settlements were hit by Russian air strikes.

Frontline update

In the Kharkiv direction, the Russian troops tried to break through the Ukrainian defenses once near Vovchansk.

In the Kupyansk direction, 10 attacks took place yesterday. The Ukrainian forces repelled the Russian assault near Dvorichna, Petropavlivka, Lozova, Kutkivka, and Nova Kruhliakivka.

In the Lyman direction, the Russian forces attacked 13 times. They tried to break into the Ukrainian defense near the settlements of Kopanky, Terny and Kolodiazi.

In the Siversk direction, the Russian invaders conducted offensive actions in the area of Ivano-Dariivka. Ukrainian defenders rebuffed one attack.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the Russians attacked six times in the areas of Chasiv Yar and Fedorivka.

In the Toretsk direction, the Russian troops made six attacks in the area of Toretsk.

In the Pokrovsk direction, the Ukrainian defenders stopped 61 enemy attacks towards the settlements of Vodiane Druhe, Zelenne Pole, Yelyzavetivka, Hryshyne, Novoserhiivka, Petropavlivka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Myrnohrad, Novyi Trud, Pokrovsk, Zvirove, Uspenivka, Slovianka, Sribne, Shevchenko, Andriivka, Ulakly, Yantarne, Dachne.

In the Novopavlivka direction, the Russian aggressors made eight attacks in the areas of Vremivka, Kostiantynopil and Velyka Novosilka over the past day.

In the Orikhiv direction, the invading forces stormed Ukrainian positions once near Kamianske.

In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully countered three Russian offensives.

In the Huliaipole direction, the invading Russian forces did not conduct any active operations over the last day.

On the border with Belarus, no signs of Russian offensive groups were detected.

In the Kursk region, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are continuing their operation. Yesterday, the Russian troops carried out 23 air strikes, dropping 31 guided bombs, and fired 450 times, including 16 times from multiple rocket launchers.  

  • In 2024, the occupying Russian army lost more than 434,000 soldiers in the war in Ukraine, including about 150,000 killed.
