Russia still lives in the 90s, where murder and violence are considered the norm - Sentsov
Film director, screenwriter and writer, social activist Oleg Sentsov believes that the cult of the 90s with murders and violence that exists in Russia is the main reason for the atrocities of Russians in Ukraine
He expressed this opinion on the air of Espreso.TV.
"I try to put some values in my works. In movies and books. But sometimes I don’t know how it will work for the audience later. I filmed about our Ukrainian history as frankly as possible, how terrible it was and the understanding that it was over and we went the other way. We must understand that the 90s was a dark page in our history and we turned this page", Sentsov said
Sentsov emphasized that the big difference between Ukrainians and Russians is that in Russia there is a cult of the 90s, where murder without a reason is considered normal.
"In Russia there is a cult of the 90s of the last century. They cultivate violence and murder. For them, that time is still going on. Therefore, we see the atrocities of Russian soldiers who have lost all human face. When Russian soldiers find themselves in a war zone and commit war crimes, it is a consequence of their upbringing", Sentsov added.
