Russia poses long-term threat to NATO, says Allied Commander Europe Cavoli
Supreme Allied Commander Europe Christopher Cavoli believes that Russia will be a long-term threat to the Alliance and the West
This is stated on the website of the Atlantic Council.
According to Cavoli, after the Cold War, NATO refocused on conducting crisis management missions outside its borders. This allowed the Alliance to participate in missions on "its own terms" and on a predictable schedule. However, Russia's war against Ukraine "changed everything."
"The war has shown that today, you either win up front, fast, and big, or you’re in a long fight. So… win up front but be ready to win long," he said.
Also, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe pointed out that Russia will pose a long-term threat to the Alliance, and the West will have a "big Russian problem for many years to come." This is due to the fact that Moscow is working to build up its army and restore its losses.
"The Russian army in Ukraine is bigger now than it was at the beginning of the fight,” he pointed out. “Many of the troops are not as high quality... a lot of the equipment fielded is older: It’s refurbished, but it’s based on an older model," he added.
Cavoli also emphasized the need to modernize the defense industry, as he believes there are no one who is satisfied with the current level of production.

Earlier, Cavoli said that Russia is not going to stop in Ukraine and chronically threatens the world, so supporting Ukraine in the war with Russia is crucial for the world.
