Russia does not intend to negotiate good-faith peace deal with Ukraine – Canadian intelligence
Russia's actions directly deny its statements about its alleged openness to peace talks with Ukraine
The Canadian Armed Forces Intelligence Directorate made the statement on Twitter.
"Russia has continually claimed that it is open to negotiations to end its war in Ukraine. According to our analysis, Russia continues to demonstrate a commitment to its maximalist war aims which is at odds with its professed openness to a negotiated settlement of the conflict," the Canadian intelligence service said.
According to the Canadian Armed Forces, a vivid example of this is Russia's insistence on keeping the four temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine within the Russian Federation as a precondition for a peace agreement.
"Russia knows its preconditions are a non-starter for Ukraine, indicating Russia is currently unwilling to negotiate a good-faith peace agreement," the Canadian Armed Forces noted.
