Russia abducts children to uproot next generation of Ukraine's defenders – British Ambassador Simmons
British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons believes that Russians are kidnapping Ukrainian children to wipe out the next generation of Ukraine's defenders
She said this in an interview with ArmyInform.
When asked about her view on Russia's abduction of Ukrainian children, the diplomat said: "It is pretty clear that if you steal children from the country, you are doing it to cut off at the knees the idea that there is a viable next generation that will defend the country. It is appalling on every level. And for me, this is an issue that does not require so much discussion."
Simmons noted that it is emotionally difficult for her to talk about this.
The British ambassador believes that Russia is waging hybrid aggression against Ukraine.
"Impeding the export of Ukrainian grain is part of Russia's war and invasion of Ukraine. It is not just about bombing Ukrainian cities. Stealing children is also part of the Russian invasion. And it hurts to talk about it, because these are people’s kids," she added.
According to Simmons, since the war in Ukraine has been going on for many years, the issue of child abduction is not new: "Abduction, among other things, creates a psychological barrier between children and their parents. We know that there are children who return (from Russia - Ed.) with the idea that it is right for the Russians to fight against Ukraine."
Therefore, in her opinion, Ukraine faces not one, but two issues: the first is the need to return the children to their families, and the second is psychological assistance after brainwashing (by the Russians - ed.).
