Poland holds military drills with its allies
Large-scale military exercises Tumak-22 ended on November 25 in the area of the Suwałki corridor in Poland
This is reported by the Polish Defense Ministry.
The exercise was the largest training project of the Polish 16th Mechanized Division in 2022 and at the same time the result of training all units in the structures of this division. The training was attended by 2,000 military personnel. These are military units of the Polish army and allies, which are part of the NATO Battalion Combat Group. A thousand units of military equipment and material and technical support were also involved in the exercise.
The exercise scenario provided for performing tasks to overcome a water barrier in combination with landing and responding to mass events. Polish soldiers practised interoperability with American, British, Romanian and Croatian soldiers.
"We coordinate various military units so that the soldiers know perfectly well how to interact with each other. I think we all have a clear assessment of the high skill of our soldiers. But in order for these skills to be preserved, it is necessary to organize exercises such as Tumak at emergency sites, outside military training grounds. In the episodes of the exercise, there were tasks that followed from the current tasks of the fighters, and the tasks were formulated based, on the one hand, on our experience, and on the other hand, on observations on the battlefield. In Ukraine, we are well aware of the methods that Russia uses. We also see what effective defense methods Ukraine uses. We must be ready to use this experience and deter the aggressor," said Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, who watched the training.
For reference. The Suwałki corridor is a 100-kilometer sparsely populated section of the border between Poland and Lithuania that separates the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad from the Russian mainland. Since 2014, NATO has been paying special attention to the protection of the Suwałki corridor, which is of strategic importance for the North Atlantic alliance. It connects the Baltic states with other NATO mainland member states and is the main direction for the transfer of troops to the Baltic allies and their weapons.
