Poland asks EU for €1 bln in investments to increase grain transit from Ukraine
Poland has presented the EU with estimates of the investments needed to increase exports of agricultural products from Ukraine across the Polish-Ukrainian border to world markets
This is reported by the PAP agency.
According to the agency, which has reviewed the documents, the total investment required for the infrastructure is estimated at about EUR 1 billion.
According to the documents, about EUR 500 million are needed to expand border terminals for large trucks and railway infrastructure in Przemyśl, and Poland considers these investments a priority.
In addition, it is noted that the remaining EUR 500 million should also be used to modernize railway border crossings between Poland and Ukraine, build cargo terminals, and develop infrastructure to control cargo transportation at the border.
According to Poland's Permanent Representative to the EU, Andrzej Sados, "in 1.5 years, Poland wants to increase the transit of Ukrainian grain to third countries, especially to Africa."
"But this requires investment, and we reiterate our specific requests to the European Commission to increase the capacity of the infrastructure," he emphasized.
He added that Poland continues to support all measures aimed at improving the functioning of the "solidarity corridors" for the export of Ukrainian agricultural products.
