No water, gas, electricity: residents of frontline Avdiivka survive in basements
Vitaliy Barabash, head of the Avdiivka City Military Administration, noted that the distance from the outermost street of Avdiivka to the nearest position is 300 meters
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"We have a frontline community, because it is 300 meters from the outermost street of the city to the nearest position. We do not have the benefits of civilization . The last time we had electricity was in April 2022. The water supply was cut off a couple of months before the start of the full-scale war. The last gas supply was in April-May 2022, and there is no heating or sewerage. People have adapted to these conditions. People live in basements. There are wells in the old part of the city, but they are few and far between and do not meet the needs of the population. There are also several wells in the town. At a certain time, people come, we switch on the generators, the water is pumped and people take it. Drinking water is delivered. Generators are available only at critical infrastructure facilities, so people use candles," said Barabash.
The head of the Avdiivka city military administration also added that a volunteer center is operating in Avdiivka.
"We have a center that we built together with volunteers. A well was made in the basement of the building, several showers and washing machines were installed. There is a hairdresser in the center. There is also Starlink, and people watch Ukrainian television. Locals can charge their gadgets and drink tea," said Barabash.
