Ukrainian marine returned home after 18 months of Russian captivity
Ukraine's Navy's Angels special intelligence unit has conducted a multi-stage special operation to evacuate a marine who had been held in captivity for about a year and a half from the temporarily occupied territory
The Ukrainian Navy reported the information.
Oleksandr, 29 years old, was taken prisoner by Russia while performing a mission. During his captivity, he repeatedly became a victim and witness of torture and abuse of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
A lot of forces were involved in the rescue of Oleksandr. As a result of a complex and multi-stage operation, the Angels managed to successfully evacuate and return the Ukrainian marine. For security reasons, the details of the operation are not disclosed.
"Until the last moment, I could not believe that this was possible. A year ago, on Marine Corps Day, the Angels came and promised to bring him back. A year has passed and Oleksandr is now home. I still can't believe it. I'm very grateful to the guys for bringing my son back," says Olha, the marine's mother.
The Navy adds that Oleksandr became the 69th person successfully evacuated by the Angels to the territory controlled by Ukraine.
- On June 25, a prisoner exchange took place, during which Ukraine returned 90 more people from Russian captivity.
