Vladyslav Selezniov, military expert, colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, spokesman for the Ukrainian General Staff (2014-2017), believes that Russia will focus its main efforts in the direction of Chasiv Yar and Pokrovsk

He said this on the Espreso TV channel.

"Currently, the Kupyansk-Lyman direction remains behind the scenes. The enemy has recently intensified its activities there. Attacks in this area have resumed, and the enemy has the initiative there again. And the Ukrainian army is once again forced to react, repelling enemy attacks. By the way, the adversary has amassed resources in the Kursk, Bryansk and Belgorod regions. Up to 40,000 Russian troops are concentrated there. This is not yet the amount of forces and means that would allow them to attack our northern border areas, but this number poses a certain threat to our defenders," explained Selezniov.

According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces colonel, the dynamics of hostilities is likely to increase in the Kupyansk-Lyman sector.

"If we consider the summer offensive campaign of the enemy army, we will most likely face the following strategy of the Russian army: there will be two auxiliary directions to which the enemy will try to draw part of our forces and means, namely Kupyansk-Lyman. Accordingly, the dynamics will be observed in the south of Zaporizhzhia region. In particular, in the area of Staromykhailivka and Robotyne. And the two main areas where the enemy will focus its main efforts are Chasiv Yar and Pokrovsk. However, we must understand that a more or less clear forecast should be made after the US aid package is approved," emphasized Selezniov.

  • On April 16, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he will request a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council to discuss "protecting the skies, supplying air defense, relevant systems and missiles."
