International response to Russia's blockade of Ukrainian seaports imminent - expert
Pavlo Lakiychuk, Head of Security Programs at the Center for Global Studies Strategy XXI, argues that the international community will respond with concrete actions to protect Ukrainian seaports in the coming months. There are a lot of stakeholders in this matter, he stressed.
He expressed his opinion with Espreso.
"There are a lot of stakeholders and countries suffering from the Russian blockade. Most of those African countries that suffer from hunger as a result of Russia's actions in Ukraine, at least at the political level, have supported Putin's policies," Lakiychuk said.
NATO ships may well accompany Ukrainian civilian ships from the Black Sea to the Bosphorus. Such actions will not mean that NATO countries are part of the fighting.
"If the purpose of these ships in the Black Sea is to ensure the protection of navigation, it doesn't make them a party to the conflict," he said.
If Russia attacks NATO ships in the Black Sea, which have a mission to protect civilian ships, then it will start a new conflict not related to the current hostilities.
