If Lukashenko isn't replaced by more compliant candidate, Belarus won't go to war - Major General Yahun
Major General Viktor Yahun, Deputy Head of Ukraine's Security Service (2014-2015), military and public figure, believes that Russia either needs to carry out some kind of provocation on the border or really change Lukashenko to involve the Belarusian army in the war against Ukraine
He expressed his opinion on Espreso TV.
“In my opinion, Lukashenko will maintain his position of non-interference until the very last moment. Unless he is replaced by some more compliant figure, Belarus will not enter the war. There are many factors for this, one of them is mental. They are very afraid of a social explosion in Belarus because of the significant losses of the Belarusian army. Belarus is not Russia, and the Belarusian population will have a very, very negative perception of losses in a war they don't understand outside their country. The potential for protest has always been there, will be there, and still exists in Belarus. And Russia needs to either carry out some kind of provocation, create a belligerent incident (a formal pretext for starting a war - ed.) on the border, or really change Lukashenko,” Major General of Ukraine's Security Service commented.
Viktor Yahun noted that Lukashenko is provoking the CSTO representatives, and this is his game of pre-emptive action, i.e. a game of throwing the ball from one field to another, which will continue.
“I think Belarus, especially Belarusian troops, will definitely not take part in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine in the near future,” Yahun said.
