NATO, Ramstein decisions on Ukraine air defense remain unfulfilled – Zelenskyy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the need for partners to follow through on all agreements, especially those related to air defense, that have already been reached with Ukraine
He shared this message on Telegram.
According to Zelenskyy, this week alone, Russia launched hundreds of strikes on Ukrainian cities, villages, and frontline positions: nearly 700 air bombs and over 600 attack drones.
"Each week, Russia's war continues because of the Russian army's ability to terrorize Ukraine and maintain air superiority. That’s why it’s crucial for partners to implement the agreements we already have. The NATO summit decisions in Washington and the air defense agreements made at Ramstein meetings have yet to be fully carried out," Zelenskyy stated.
He also mentioned discussions with partners, including the U.S., about licensing Ukraine to produce air defense systems and their missiles.
"There’s nothing impossible about this, it would only boost our shared ability to ensure security. This kind of strength is what enables lasting peace. Russia doesn’t stop its wars voluntarily, it can only be forced into peace. And a key part of that coercion is having enough air defense systems with the necessary quality," the president emphasized.
- On the night of Sunday, January 12, Russian forces launched another wave of drone strikes on Ukraine. Air defense units successfully shot down 60 Russian drones.
