Hungary plays role of Russia's Trojan horse in NATO and EU - diplomat Ohryzko
Diplomat, Ukraine's former Minister of Foreign Affairs, head of the Center for Russian Studies Volodymyr Ohryzko says that Hungary is currently playing the role of Russia's Trojan horse in both NATO and the EU
He said this on Espreso TV.
"This is a shameful story. It is obvious that today Hungary is playing the role of Russia's Trojan horse in both NATO and the EU. They are well aware of this, but so far, unfortunately, they are refraining from taking drastic steps, still hoping that this can be resolved with softer tools," Ohryzko said.
The diplomat noted that it seems to him that everything that could be done badly by Budapest has already been done.
"And here is the last of Orban's statements, where he said that under no circumstances are they going to allow Ukraine to advance either in the EU or in NATO. That is, the issue here is not about national minorities or education laws. These are all formal pretexts that allow Budapest to pursue this anti-Ukrainian and pro-Moscow policy. And in this context, the appointment of the ambassador is a logical step on the part of Budapest, as they are friends with Putin and Lukashenko," he emphasized.
Ohryzko also noted that at some point "the collective Brussels and the EU and NATO will have to draw conclusions."
- On September 28, the Hungarian Ambassador to Belarus presented letters of congratulations to self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko, who is under sanctions for his complicity in the war with Ukraine.
