History teaches us that the Russian tyrant must be stopped in time - Lithuanian president
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has stressed that Lithuania will help Ukraine win the war, because Lithuanians clearly understand the threat of Russia's imperial ambitions
Gitanas Nauseda said this during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on July 28.
"We are well aware of the threat that Russia's imperial ambitions pose to the entire region. We cannot afford to repeat old mistakes. Lithuania will continue to work with partners and allies to maintain a Western focus, ensure long-term support for Ukraine, as well as limit Russia's ability to continue this war", Nauseda said.
The President of Lithuania added that his country will continue to provide military, humanitarian, and financial aid to Ukraine, as well as contribute to the strengthening of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
"We clearly see that decisions regarding sanctions and military support, no matter how important they are, are not enough. Therefore, we will strive to further strengthen sanctions, ensure their effective implementation, as well as reduce the dependence of the whole of Europe on Russian energy resources. Finance, which helps the Russian Federation to wage this war, should be blocked", Nauseda emphasized.
Gitanas Nauseda began his speech in the Verkhovna Rada in Ukrainian. He emphasized that the courage of Ukrainians, who are fighting for the survival of their state and nation, is unsurpassed, and the publicity about their exploits is spreading all over the world.
"Thousands of times you have proved that you are worthy of the name of your valiant ancestors. Today in Europe, there is no greater such ardent and devoted love in the heart for the Motherland, with which the defenders of their own freedom wake up every morning. I came here, to the capital of the free and independent state of Ukraine, to thank you for defending your independence so resolutely and setting such an example to us all. Your struggle is also our struggle, Lithuanians. It reminds us of the times when we fought together against a common enemy. Today's victories of your assembly are like a reflection of the triumph of the legendary commander and hetman Konstanty Ostrogski near Orsha. And when the Ukrainian artillery brigade named after Grand Duke Vytautas bravely goes into battle, Lithuanians are proud of it as the achievements of their blood relatives", Nauseda said.
