Hamas praises Putin for his position on war in Israel

Hamas appreciates Putin's position on "Zionist aggression against our people" and his rejection of the siege of Gaza.

"[We] appreciate Russian President Vladimir Putin's position regarding the ongoing Zionist aggression against our people and his rejection of the Gaza siege, the cutting of relief supplies, and the targeting of safe civilians there," the statement says. 

CNN recalls that on Wednesday, October 11, the Russian dictator called on Israel and Hamas to "minimize or reduce to zero" civilian casualties, and on October 13, the Russian Foreign Ministry made similar calls for calm.

These Russian comments come as Russia continues its ruthless military campaign against Ukraine and is under investigation by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity. This case includes, among other things, allegations of targeting civilians.

In addition to Putin's comments, the Russian representative to the UN circulated a resolution calling for a ceasefire on Friday.

On the morning of Saturday, October 7, 2023, the Palestinian armed groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad launched a massive air and land attack on the state of Israel in several places.
