Ukraine develops 'Pentagon of state registries': details
Ukraine's Ministry of Justice team is developing a data protection system, dubbed the 'Pentagon of state registries,' to safeguard against cyberattacks
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice, Olha Stefanishyna, shared this in an interview with Ukrinform.
She explained that the purpose of the mechanism is to protect data from Russian cyberattacks.
"We are ensuring restoration at sites with mechanisms that protect relevant data from potential attacks. We've also developed a plan to create a kind of 'Pentagon' for state registers, which we expect to roll out quickly. The team is already working on this initiative," Stefanishyna said.
She pointed out that the goal of the Russian cyberattack in December last year was mainly to disrupt the state's functionality.
"This goal wasn’t achieved, and I want to express my special gratitude to the Ministry of Justice specialists. However, cyberwarfare continues 24/7. As long as the full-scale war with Russia continues, cyberwar will too," the head of the department added.
- After a large-scale cyberattack by Russia on December 19, 2024, Ukraine's Unified and State Registers, along with the Ministry of Justice's website, were temporarily unavailable. The SBU launched a criminal investigation and found that a hacker group linked to the Russian GRU was behind the attack.
- On January 8, the Ministry of Justice restored its website's operations following the Russian cyberattack.
