Germany hands over COBRA radar station, five more Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery guns to Ukraine
Germany has handed the COBRA radar station and five Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery guns to Ukraine in the past week.
Evropeiska Pravda reports citing German government data, published on Tuesday, September 6.
Radar technology from COBRA (Counter Battery Radar) is an artillery reconnaissance system and allows the detection of Russian howitzers and mortars of caliber 80 millimeters.
According to estimates, the radar will be able to detect 40 firing positions in two minutes. Experts estimate the cost of the COBRA system at EUR 50 million.
It was earlier reported that Germany could transfer three to five COBRA radar stations to Ukraine, but Berlin announced the preparation of only one such system.
The Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled artillery gun can fire 35 mm shells at a rate of up to 1,000 rounds per minute. In real conditions, it fires in short bursts adapted to the target.
Previously, the systems manufacturer trained Ukrainian soldiers in Germany on how to use the systems.
In mid-July, Berlin published a list of weapons it still plans to deliver to Ukraine, including 30 Gepard air defense systems.
