First 635 Ukrainian servicemen complete training at US base in Germany
Pentagon reports that the first group of Ukrainian soldiers has completed training at a US base in Germany
According to a CNN report, the second group is already undergoing a five-week course in which the soldiers will be taught maneuver, medical, and basic military training.
The first group of 635 Ukrainians completed the course at the Grafenwoehr training ground, where the United States conducts its own general military and maneuver training exercises.
The Ukrainian battalion also trained on a Bradley infantry fighting vehicle.
The exercises began in mid-January and are part of an expanded US program to prepare the Ukrainian military for combat.
Previously, the US offered smaller-scale exercises on individual weapon systems, such as the HIMARS missile launchers. The move to battalion-level training marks a significant expansion of US efforts to prepare Ukrainians for a long-term war.
The second group of 710 Ukrainian soldiers has already begun training at the Grafenwoehr training ground. The soldiers will train on the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and the M109 Paladin self-propelled howitzer.
In addition, next week another 890 Ukrainian servicemen will begin training on Stryker combat vehicles.
