UAVs hit Russian military production plant in Izhevsk: One casualty reported
Early on November 17, drones struck Kupol, an Izhevsk-based electromechanical plant and key facility in Russia producing Tor air defense systems, UAVs, radars, and other components. Reports suggest one employee was injured
The attack was reported by Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation, Aleksandr Brechalov, head of the Udmurt Republic, and the ASTRA Telegram channel.
“Unidentified drones targeted the Izhevsk electromechanical plant Kupol in Russia, where Tor air defense systems and radar components are manufactured,” wrote Kovalenko.
According to Brechalov, a report of an explosion was received in the morning at Lenina 101, the address of the plant’s workshop. He stated that preliminary findings suggest a UAV crash.
“The factory sustained broken windows, but no major damage. Personnel were evacuated. Unfortunately, one person was injured and is now hospitalized in moderate condition,” Brechalov noted.
He later clarified that the injured worker suffered a moderate head injury caused by the falling UAV.
Izhevsk residents claim the drones hit a workshop where UAVs are built. "They should’ve thought twice before putting drone factories in the middle of the city," commented locals in a video.
Eyewitness accounts point to the UAV striking the Kupol plant's 300th production unit at the intersection of two streets.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that its air defense systems allegedly downed two UAVs over the Belgorod region.
“In the Black Sea, four unmanned boats heading toward Crimea were destroyed by direct fire,” added the ministry.
- The November 16 overnight attacks prompted widespread drone defense activity across four Russian regions and annexed Crimea. Authorities in Kaluga confirmed another UAV strike near Lyudinovo, targeting an oil depot.
