UK intelligence analyzes Russian offensive on Kupyansk
Russian forces have intensified their offensive on Kupyansk, located in the Kharkiv region, northeastern Ukraine
According to the UK Ministry of Defense, on November 13, Russian forces likely attempted to infiltrate Kupyansk from the northeast. The Ukrainian General Staff reported four successive waves of Russian attacks.
To the south of Kupyansk, Russian forces have reached the Oskil River, severing Ukrainian logistics lines on the eastern side of the river. A Russian salient south of Kupyansk has gradually expanded as Russia attempts to increase pressure on Ukrainian forces in the area.
Ukrainian officials ordered civilian evacuations from Kupyansk and surrounding areas on October 15. The Kupyansk City Military Administration estimates that 4,000 civilians remain in the area, compared to a pre-war population of 27,000.
“Kupyansk is important as it serves as a transportation intersection and logistics hub,” the UK Ministry of Defense reported.
