Hard times ahead: British colonel on Trump administration's potential isolationist policy

Retired British Army Colonel Glen Grant says that China's preparations for war are increasingly evident, as it supports Russia, doesn't deter the DPRK, and doesn't influence Iran

He expressed this opinion in an interview with Antin Borkovskyi, host of the Studio West program on Espreso TV.

"The upcoming U.S. elections revolve around America and its policies. It’s about who will lead the United States. Ukraine is a secondary matter. During Joe Biden’s presidency, Ukraine remained secondary, and I believe this won’t change under Donald Trump. His priorities lie within America - money, power, and his personal agenda, aiming to become, in a way, a lifetime leader of America. He has already stated that there won’t be any other elections in the U.S. Let’s wait and see how he attempts to make this a reality," commented military expert Glen Grant.

In his opinion, any changes in the U.S. will also impact Ukraine. Americans will likely focus more on domestic issues and be less willing to spend money on foreign affairs. The greatest threat is a potential return to an isolationist policy, similar to that during World War II, where the focus was almost entirely on America’s internal matters, possibly except for China.

"Undoubtedly, this will have consequences not only for the United States but also for Europe and all its allies, who may be crucial for the U.S. in the event of a war with China, should such a conflict become inevitable. It increasingly appears that China is preparing for war, as it supports Russia, does not restrain North Korea, which also backs Russia, and certainly does not influence Iran, which operates in the same direction. Therefore, I believe challenging times lie ahead. As for Trump, I think many of his plans and dreams will collapse in the coming months due to unforeseen circumstances. These circumstances will ultimately prevail, forcing his administration to face the reality of the global situation, not just the narrow scope of American politics," summarized Grant.

  • On November 11, billionaire Elon Musk and an associate of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump met with Iran's ambassador to the United Nations.
  • On November 14, newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump announced that his administration would focus on the Russia-Ukraine war.
