Ukraine ramps up missile development, production amid war with Russia
Ukraine is advancing missile technology and ramping up production, introducing innovative long-range systems to strengthen its defense amid the war with Russia
Defense Express reports.
Ukraine is intensifying efforts to develop and expand its missile capabilities. Over nearly three years of full-scale war with Russia, both private and state sectors have undergone technological advancements, positioning Ukraine as Europe's most technologically advanced country, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of maritime drones, which have inflicted significant damage on Russia's Black Sea Fleet, and emphasized the need for further progress in drone technology and electronic warfare systems. He also revealed that Ukraine now possesses four types of missiles, with ongoing tests hinting at new developments.
Among these missiles is likely the Neptune, which sank Russia's Moskva cruiser and has been adapted for land targets during the war. While its ground-based use remains unofficial, the Ukrainian Navy has hinted at employing it against Russian territory. Another is likely a ballistic missile with a reported range of 600-700 km, successfully tested earlier this year.
The remaining two missiles are less clear. Advisor Mykhailo Podolyak previously mentioned experimental models with ranges of 750-1,000 km, possibly unrelated to Neptune or the ballistic missile. Other candidates include repurposed S-200 systems or innovative designs like the Palianytsia, described as a rocket drone.
Regardless of specifics, Ukraine's missile development represents significant progress. Scaling production is the next challenge, with Zelenskyy noting that over 100 missiles have already been produced this year.
